Dr Gracelyn Smallwood (PhD) has been an activist for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait people's rights since childhood. She completed her PhD in 2012. Her first book Indigenist Critical Realism: Human Rights and First Australians' Wellbeing is based on her PhD thesis and has just been released by Routledge. See http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9781138810365/. The book is a very personal one being embedded in Gracelyn and her family's story while strongly defending the Human Rights Agenda in Indigenous Affairs in Australia.

Gracelyn was the first Indigenous scholar to gain a PhD through the Building Indigenous Research Program at James Cook University. Gracelyn is a Townsville resident and Townsville and the north Queensland community are very proud of her achievements.
